Abstract

1389018 Vinyl halide-N-vinyl pyrrolidone copolymers BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 28 Sept 1972 [23 Sept 1971] 44396/71 Heading C3P A vinyl halide is copolymerized with up to 5% of N-vinyl pyrrolidone-2, suitably using a freeradical initiator in an aqueous suspension system. At least 50% of vinyl halide is employed and monomers such as ethylene, propylene, vinyl acetate, vinyl laurate, vinyl stearate and vinylidene chloride may also be present in the copolymers. In the examples vinyl chloride is copolymerized with 0À05 and 0À1% of vinyl pyrrolidone in an aqueous medium containing hydroxy-alkylated cellulose suspending agents and a peroxy dicarbonate as initiator. The copolymers are compounded with dioctylphthalate, white lead and calcium stearate and the improved volume resistivities measured.
