Abstract

1388548 Remote meter reading MARCONI CO Ltd 5 July 1972 [18 Aug 1971] 38858/71 Divided out of 1290252 Heading G4H A meter 1, e.g. for gas, electricity or water consumption, provides a digital indication encoded as in the record claimed in the parent Specification. A reading device 8 is driven across a plurality of indicating drums 2 in response to an interrogation signal received from a central station. The interrogation signal and read-out signals may be modulated on a carrier wave whose frequency is unique to the meter for transmission over mains supply lines. Alternatively, telephone wires may be used. The coded indications could be scanned by a handheld reading device.
