1511373 Multiplexing SHARETREE Ltd 18 April 1975 16208/75 Heading H4M A transmitter 1, e.g. for use in a pipe line telemetry system for transmitting data signals representing values of various parameters, which values are conveyed by the amplitudes of respective input signals to the transmitter, comprises a plurality of channels 11, 12, 13 operable to produce respective A.C. signals at respective frequencies and having durations representing the values of the respective parameters, e.g. voltages V1, V2, V3 associated with the corrosion protection system with the pipe-line; and data signal producing means 2 for transferring the A.C. signals to a common output channel, e.g. by frequency modulation, so that the said A.C. signals constitute the data signals. An address channel 14 produces, in response to an interrogation signal, a series pattern of A.C. signals of equal duration representing the address of the transmitter, and these signals are transmitted together with the data signals. A decoder 3 for processing the signals, which may be recorded on magnetic tape, comprises a plurality of channels 31, 32, 33, 34 responsive to respective ones of the A.C. signals to produce respective count values related to the duration of the A.C. signals associated with the channels, which count values correspond to the values of the original parameters. Suitable circuit arrangements for the transmitter and the decoder are described with reference to Figs. 2 to 7 (not shown).
