Abstract

1388496 Twist-wrapping machines TENCHI KIKAI KK 8 Sept 1972 [9 Nov 1971] 41722/72 Heading B8C In a twist-wrapping machine, opposed gripper arms 33, 34 carry confections a and wrappers b past folding plates 44, 45 and pivotal folders 47 which, respectively, fold edges b 1 , b 2 and b 3 of the wrapper and tuck portions 47a of the edge b 1 , the partially wrapped confections a are transferred to further gripper arms 48, 49 for transport past a reciprocating folder 58 which folds the edge b 1 on to the confection, a folder 68 which folds the edge b 3 over the edge b 1 and on to the confection, and a folding plate 69 which folds the edge b 2 over the edge b 3 , and the remaining edge b 4 of the wrapper is gripped and twisted by rotatable jaws (62, Fig. 2). The confections a are deposited on a rotating wheel 3 having a conical upper surface, and drop into circumferentially spaced grooves 4 in the wheel for transport during which they are supported on a track 5. An aperture 6 as provided in the track 5 and a confection drops into this aperture for pick up by a gripper arm 33 which pushes the confection against a wrapper supported on an apertured tray. The wrapper is severed from a web B and is transferred to the tray 8 by grippers 13 and 14 carried by a wheel 10 and controlled by cams 18, 19. The gripper arms 33, 34 are pivoted to a wheel 31 and are controlled by cams 38 and 40. The cam 40 allowing the arm 34 to advance past the tray 8 before being pivoted to grip a wrapper against a confection, and the cam 38 causing the arm 33 to pivot to release the partically wrapped confection. The grippers 48, 49 are carried by a wheel 51 and are controlled by a cam 54, the wheel 51 being carried by a shaft 50 the ends of which carry further wheels (71, 72). The wheel (72) carries the reciprocating pusher 58, and the wheel (71) carries the jaws (62) which are rotated by means of a rack and pinion (63, 64).
