Abstract

1322707 Conveyers; packaging wrapped articles MOLINS MACHINE CO Ltd 24 Aug 1970 [25 Aug 1969] 42192/69 Headings B8A and B8C A single flow of articles 7 from a wrapping machine mould wheel 1 is formed into two superimposed rows by a rotary device 2. The device comprises an arm 3 rotatable about a fixed axis 4 and an arm 5 rotatable about a fixed axis 6, the arms being rotated in unison from a common drive. Each of the ends of the arms 3, 5 carries an identical gripping mechanism which removes wrapped articles from the mould wheel 1. The mechanism consists of a bellcrank 8 pivoted to the arm 3 or 5, and a second bellcrank 10 pivoted to the bellcrank 8. The bellcranks respectively carry cam followers 12, 13 associated with cams 14a, 14b, 15; 32a, 32b, 33. Springs 16, 17 maintain the followers in contact with the cams. At point A, the camming arrangement causes jaws of the bellcranks 8, 10 on arm 3 to grip an article 7 which has just been ejected from the wheel 1 and the article is carried to a point B 1 between two plates 20, 21. The article having been released by the camming action on the bellcranks, the latter remain ready to receive a further article upon arriving at the point A. The gripping mechanisms on arm 5 act in the same way as those on arm 3 but the articles are deposited at a lower point B 2 , between plates 21, 22. For decelerating the articles as they pass between the plates 20, 21, 22, a series of rollers 23-26 are driven by step-down band drives.
