Abstract

1388400 α-Aminocephalosporin derivatives BRISTOL-MYERS CO 20 Nov 1972 [3 Dec 1971] 56256/71 Heading C2C Novel α-aminocephalosporin derivatives having the general Formula (II) and non-toxic salts and esters thereof, wherein Q represents a moiety of formula or R-X, in which formulµ R is 2- or 3- thienyl, or phenyl which may be substituted by one or more of halo, hydroxy, nitro, amino, trifluoromethyl, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, C 1 -C 6 alkanoyl, C 1 -C 6 alkoxy and C 1 -C 6 alkylmercapto; and X is a group of formula are prepared by reacting an appropriate α- aminocephalosporin or a salt thereof with formaldehyde or a source thereof (e.g. a formaldehyde polymer) in a liquid medium and recovering the desired product. The compounds (II) and their salts and esters have antibiotic activity and may be admixed with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier to provide antibacterial pharmaceutical compositions.
