Abstract

1387939 Reciprocating compressors GRASSOS KONINKLIJKE MACHINEFABRIEKEN NV 7 Dec 1972 [23 Dec 1971] 56511/72 Heading F1N A multi-cylinder reciprocating piston refrigerant compressor comprises a generally cylindrical housing 1 having end-plates 2, 3, bearing covers 4, 5 mounted in respective end-plates 2, 3 and supporting a crank-shaft 6, a suction cover 13 defining with the bearing cover 4 and the end-plate 2 an annular suction chamber, and an annular filter plate 15 through which the suction gas passes before entering suction passages 18. The cylinders are radially disposed and arranged in groups (two per group shown), the cylinders of each group being arranged in a longitudinally extending row. Each cylinder group has an individual suction passage 18 with an entry opening 2a in the endplate 2. Gas compressed in the cylinders is collected in a chamber 19 and delivered through a connection 20. The filter plate 15 is preferably of sintered bronze or stainless steel whereby it removes both oil and solid impurities from the gas. The oil removed drains to the bottom of the plate and enters the housing 1 through a check valve 28. An oil pump 25 draws the oil through a filter 24 and delivers it to the crank-shaft bearings through a filter 22.
