Abstract

Hydraulic seal safety appartus.-An hydraulic seal safety apparatus is fitted with a floatoperated valve adapted to close the gas inlet when an abnormal lowering of the water level occurs. The hydraulic seal comprises a closed. chamber a surrounded by an open water-jacket b and provided with a gas inlet pipe c and a valvecontrolled outlet connexion d. The water for making the seal is introduced through a funnel k on an escape pipe j and is drained away through a valve-controlled pipe h, the level being determined by a valve-controlled over-flow pipe f. An annular float is guided by an extension c<1> on the inlet pipe and is connected by a stirrup n to the spindle m of a valve p adapted to control a seat o arranged in the gas-inlet pipe. According to the Provisional Specification, the extension c' may be replaced by a pair of pipes passing one on each side of the float. Further, the level of the seal may be maintained by an external cistern fitted with a ball cock, or the water jacket may be closed and provided with an orifice at the normal level to feed the seal on the bird-fountain principle.
