Abstract

1387767 Alkyl and dialkyl-aminoalkyl phenols MOBIL OIL CORP 21 May 1973 [19 June 1972] 24075/73 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] The invention comprises alkali metal salts of alkyl and dialkyl aminoalkyl phenols. These compounds may be obtained by treating 1 mole of the appropriate phenol with 1À1 mols of 25% aq. alkyl or dialkylamine and adding to the resulting mixture 1À1 mol. of 37% formalin. The phenol thus produced is transformed to its alkali metal salt by any of the conventional methods. The following compounds are prepared in the examples. Lithium salts of 2-dimethylaminomethyl-4-cresol; sodium salt of 2-dimethylaminomethyl-4-cresol; potassium salt of 2-dimethylaminomethyl-4-cresol; lithium salt of 2,6-bis- (dimethylaminomethyl)-4-cresol; lithium salt of 2 - (dimethylaminomethyl) - 5 - cresol; sodium salt of 2 - (dimethylaminomethyl) - 5- cresol; lithium salt of 2 - (diethylaminomethyl)- 4-cresol; lithium salt of 2 - (di - n - butylaminomethyl) - 4 - cresol; lithium salt of 2- (di - iso - butylamino - methyl) - 4 - cresol; sodium salt of 2-(di-n-butylaminomethyl)-4- cresol; sodium salt of 2,6-bis-(dimethylaminomethyl)-4-cresol.
