Abstract

1387217 Transfer of sliver between machines NAKAGAWA SEISAKUJO K K 1 March 1973 [3 March 1972] 10009/73 Headings D1F and D1N The direction of travel of a sliver is reversed by conveying the sliver by means of a pair of conveyor belts e.g. 27a, 28a to a temporary storage zone, severing the sliver upstream of the conveyor belts and then reversing their direction of travel to remove the sliver from the temporary storage zone. Two such temporary storage zones 31a, 31b are provided so that one is filling while the other is emptying. Two conveyor belt pairs 26a, 26b are provided and the sliver is directed selectively to the required pair by a swing- able conveyor pair 24. Swinging of the conveyors 24 also serves to sever the advancing sliver. Alternative selective feeding arrangements are illustrated in Figs. 5B and 5C and comprise a swingable chute or two fixed inclined chutes with a transfer bar 147 respectively. Sliver withdrawn from a can passes to a further conveyor pair 32 which forwards it to a conveyor 33 leading to the next successive processing machine. A reversible motor 94 drives the conveyor 24 and the conveyors 26a and 26b during can filling. A drive from the next processing machine via sprocket 113 drives the conveyors 32 and the conveyors 26a and 26b during can emptying. Magnetic clutches 75a, 75b, 77a and 77b select the source of drive and are controlled together with the motor 94 by the circuits of Figs. 12 and 13 (not shown). Swinging of the conveyor set 24 is brought about through a two way ratchet device 51, Fig. 8 (not shown). Change over is brought about either by a timer which allows the first can to be filled or by a photoelectric sensor 116, 117 which detects lack of sliver delivery. When the timer signal is detected first, feed is stopped as is the operation of the preceeding processing machine but delivery continues until the relevant can is empty when reversal occurs. When the sensor signal occurs first reversal is delayed until the timer signal occurs thus allowing the relevant can to be filled. Figs. 9, 10 and 11 (not shown) illustrate arrangements of the sliver feed device between processing machines which may be combing, carding or gilling machines. The cans 31a and 31 are mounted on turntables.
