1387086 Staining biological specimens BOEHRINGER MANNHEIM GmbH 14 Aug 1973 [18 Aug 1972] 38432/73 Heading G1B A device for staining biological materials comprises a thin tubelet coated on its inner surface with a solid dye stuff or stain. The tubelet may be of glass or synthetic resin, clear or opaque, colourless or coloured. The coating may also include a stabilizer, buffer or anticoagulant. The coating may be made by passing a solution of dye or stain through the tubelet and removing the solvent by heating and passing through dry gas. A series of layers may be deposited, each layer using a solvent which does not dissolve the preceding layer. The solvent may include a viscosity regulator. In use, the biological fluid is passed through the tube and then spread on a microscope slide for normal examination. Uses specified include Vital dyeing of reticulocytes, nile blue dyeing of Heinz bodies, urine sediment dyeing by Sternheimer and Malbin's method and peroxidase dyeing of Gonococci.
