1386952 Water shoes C M GIBSON 27 Oct 1972 [10 Aug 1971] 37569/71 HeadingB7A [Also in Division A6] A snow shoe, the elongated runner of a snow ski or the elongated float 2 of a water shoe is provided with at least two blades 4A hinged thereto, located one in front of the other and movable between a downwardly directed propulsion position, Fig. 3, in which the blade is maintained by the forwardly directed thrust of water (or snow), and a rearwardly retracted position, Fig. 2, in which the blade is maintained by the rearwardly directed resistance of the water (or snow), when the shoe or ski is moving forwardly, each blade being of cranked shape such that the forward blade overlaps and lies substantially flush with the blade therebehind when the blades are retracted. On a watershoe, the blades may alternatively or additionally be mounted on a side to project outwardly into a propulsion position. A propulsion or guide stick for use with the water shoes may comprise a buoyant disc attached perpendicularly to the end of a shaft or may comprise a shaft 20, Fig. 4, having at its end a recticulate framework 22 on which there is mounted an assemblage of hinged flaps 24 movable between a closed operative position in the plane of the framework and a depending open position as the stick is pulled out of the water.
