1386447 Balanced flue terminals THORN HEATING Ltd 25 July 1973 [27 July 1972] 35163/72 Heading F4J A balanced flue terminal comprises a vertical flue pipe 1, a combustion air pipe 4 terminating below the outlet 2 of said flue pipe 1, an outer protective cover 7 surrounding the pipe sections and having a middle cylindrical part 10 closed by an annular plate 15 and an upper cylindrical part 17 supported by said plate and incorporating a circular end plate 21 spaced therefrom with spaced inner plates 23 and 27 said plates 21, 23 and 27 being either flat formed with peripheral flanges or being concave. The upper cylindrical part 17 also includes a skirt 8 closed by a cap 9 attached to the air pipe 4 and defining with a cut away portion of middle part 10 an air entry 11, the incoming air path being shown by the arrows 29. Part 10 has vanes 12 with their lower edge cut away and formed with flanges 13 bolted or riveted to the air pipe 4. The vanes 12 support the plate 15 which is also attached by a flange 16 to the flue pipe 1. Above the cylindrical part 17 is a wire mesh screen 20 which supports plate 21, plates 23 and 27 being supported by brackets 28 from the plate 15. Combustion gases escape through mesh screen 20 and annular space 19 as shown by arrows 30 and rain penetrating into the terminal drains off plates 9 and 15. A lead flashing (32, Fig. 5) is disposed inside the skirt 8 and in the roof (33) through which pipes 1 and 4 extend.
