Abstract
1386240 Feeding strip metal LEE CHESTERS Ltd 6 March 1972 [17 June 1971] 28403/71 Heading B3W Metal strip 11a is fed stepwise from a coil 11 to a press 50, particularly a blanking press, through freely rotatable straightening rollers 22, 23 by means of a clamp 26 moved to strip-gripping position by hydraulic cylinders 33, 34 and reciprocated by cylinders 35, 36. A stop PV3S on the clamp actuates a pilot valve PV3 at the end of a feed stroke of the clamp to initiate the operation of the press through a power cylinder 40 and a clutch or pedal 51. The stroke length may be varied by the provision of adjustable stop collars (not shown) on the rams 35a, 36a. Start and stop press button valves (ST) and (SP), Fig. 4 (not shown), are provided and a further stop valve SV associated with the straightening rollers is closed when the supply of strip ends. The clamp grips the strip through indenting punches (31) and dies (32), (Fig. 3, not shown). The rollers 22, 23 may be arranged also to curl and flatten the edges of the strip.
