Abstract

1367107 Shearing; metal strip feeds MOON BROS Ltd 13 March 1973 [17 Dec 1971] 58590/71 Heading B3W Metal strip is fed step by step to a scroll shear 10 having blades 11 disposed at an angle of 60 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the strip. Strip is fed from a coil 12 by a gripper device 15, 16 actuated by, e.g. a cam, crank or piston and cylinder, 14. The shear is fluid- or mechanicallyactuated and the blades 11, or other blades, preferably shear a triangular notch at each end of the sheared portion. Each sheared portion shown (see also Fig. 2) is suitable for punching out four circular blanks with less waste overall than if the portions were sheared at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the strip. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the longitudinal central axis C-C of the press is displaced anticlockwise through 15 degrees from the general cutting line B-B and either the blades 11 can be moved through 30 degrees from line B-B to shear at right angles to the strip axis on line (D-D) or a second set of blades is mounted on line (D-D).
