Abstract

1386056 Lead storage battery electrodes L BOHLE 4 Sept 1973 [4 Sept 1972] 41606/73 Heading H1B An electrode comprising a number of porous insulating tubes 15 arranged side-by-side, each tube having a lead spine 14, is filled with active material by adding to a conventional leadpaste mixture additional water to form a suspension, and forcing the suspension into the tubes. The quantity of additional water is approximately equal to the amount of water already present in the conventional paste mixture and serves to reduce the viscosity. The filling apparatus comprises a metering pump 8 containing the suspension connected to a distributer 9 through a quick-acting valve or gate 3/13, nozzles 10 at the outlet of the distributer being coupled to the inlet ends of the tubes 15. Actuation of a plunger 2 by a rod 5 and opening of the valve or gate 3/13 causes a measured quantity of the suspension to be injected into all the tubes 15 simultaneously.
