Abstract
1385740 Fluid regulation TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 14 Dec 1972 [17 Jan 1972] 57770/72 Heading G3H [Also in Division E1] Apparatus for transmitting data, e.g. temperature or pressure measurements, from a well borehole comprises a chamber in the drill string. The chamber continuously receives a diverted portion of a fluid stream, e.g. mud, which is moving under pressure as a result of the drilling operation the borehole, the diverted portion being returned to the fluid stream after passing through the chamber. A fluidic oscillator in the chamber pressure-modulates the diverted portion and is selectively switched on and off in a timedependent manner in response to the downhole condition being sensed, whereby data representing the downhole condition is transmitted to the fluid stream in the form of time-spaced bursts of the pressure-modulated output of the oscillator. A detector is arranged at the surface. Amplifiers may be provided intermediate the chamber and the surface. The oscillator comprises a valve element 47 in one of its feedback loops 38, 40, the element being moved by a solenoid in accordance with the sensed downhole condition to open or close the loop and thereby provide the switching of the oscillator.
