Abstract
1385538 Forging EXPERIMENTALNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT KUZNECHNO - PRESSOVOGO MASHINOSTROENIA 20 Oct 1972 48394/72 Heading B3H [Also in Divisions F2 and B5] Apparatus for repeatedly starting, maintaining and stopping the movement of a ram 4 in a forging press (not shown) comprises a continuous drive 1, a transmission 2, and an energy accumulator 5, the drive 1 being permanently connected to the driving link 12 of the transmission, and the driven link 20 of the transmission being connected to the ram 4 and to the energy accumulator 5 such that when the driving and driven links are disengaged, the deceleration of the driven link 20 and the ram 4 stores energy in the accumulator, which energy is subsequently released to accelerate the driven link 20 up to the speed of the driving link 12 to facilitate their engagement, after which the ram 4 is again moved by the drive 1. The operation of one complete cycle is as follows: An electric motor 7 is permanently connected via a belt gear 8 with a flywheel 13 which drives through a clutch 16, 17 a crank-shaft 9 on which the ram 4 is mounted. For as long as the clutch is engaged, the electric motor 7 drives the ram 4. When the clutch is disengaged in order to stop the ram 4, the deceleration of the crank-shaft 9 stores energy in the accumulator 5 which is a gas spring. When the crank-shaft has become stationary it is locked by a brake 3. In order to restart the movement of the ram 4, the brake is released, and the energy stored in the gas spring 5 accelerates the crank-shaft 9 up to the speed of the flywheel 13. The clutch 16, 17 is re-engaged and the electric motor 7 again takes over the driving of the ram 4.
