Abstract

Vulcanizing tyres; india-rubber solutions and adhesives.-Tyres are retreaded by (a) coating the outer surface of the tyre body 1 and the inner surface of the tread 6 with an adhesive solution of rubber, benzol, naphtha, and alcohol, (b) interposing a strip composed of two non-adhesive rubber bands 3, 4 and an adhesive rubber fabric band 5, and (c) vulcanizing the tread to the tyre body. During vulcanization, the tread and tyre body may be held between an air-tube 8, in which the pressure is gradually raised, and a covering consisting of asbestos fibre mixed with sulphur bichloride, the usual fabric covering 10 being also wound round. The vulcanisation may be made in a dry air heater, which contains a vulcanising agent in solution. The adhesive solution may be formed by mixing rubber with a liquid composed of 90 per cent benzol of 90 per cent strength, 7 per cent petroleum naphtha of 78‹ BÚ. specific gravity, and 3 per cent denatured alcohol.
