Abstract

1385172 Transmission for trailers MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG NURNBERG AG 28 Aug 1973 [25 Aug 1972] 40440/73 Heading B7H A vehicle trailer or semi-trailer has an axle provided with electric hub motor driven from a generator of a towing tractor, the axle being detachably mounted as a replaceable unit. In a preferred embodiment an internal combustion engine 1, preferably a gas turbine, mounted on a tractor 3, drives a generator 2 via a clutch 8. Cables 9 connect the generator to hub motors 10, 11, 14, 15 and 12, 13, 16, 17 on the wheels of the tractor 3 and trailer 4 respectively. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), semitrailers (6, 7) in tandem are coupled to the tractor (5) and hub motors on the trailers are driven from the generator (2) on the tractor. Preferably the replaceable axle unit has a plug in cable connection in order to supply power to the respective motors.
