Abstract

1384995 Voltage transformers MICAFIL Ltd 6 March 1973 10841/73 Heading H2H A circuit comprising a capacitive voltage divider C 1 , C 2 has a part thereof C 2 shunted by the primary winding of a transformer T, the secondary winding of which is connectible by a controlled switching device S to a burden R 1 , the arrangement being such that the burden R 1 is normally out of circuit but in the event of a voltage collapse across the transformer primary winding is connected to the secondary winding by the switching device S in less than five milliseconds so as to suppress voltage transients. The switching device S may comprise a triac or a pair of opposed-parallel connected thyristors. The signals to operate the triac or thyristors are developed by devices included in the circuit, such as by means of an inductor connected in series with the capacitors C 1 , C 2 or a capacitor which is charged from a stabilized voltage source and which is then discharged by means of a transistor to produce a unidirectional pulsating voltage. Furthermore the capacitor may be charged during one half wave of a voltage cycle and subtracting therefrom the voltage value of the succeeding half cycle, a triggering signal being produced if the values of two successive half waves differ. Lastly the burden R 1 may be divided into parts, all of which are switched into circuit together but which are removed from circuit in a time-staggered sequence.
