Abstract
1384616 Retractive switches T ARVAI 28 June 1972 [27 July 1971] 30261/72 Heading H1N A retractive push-button switch comprises an electrically conductive elastomeric layer 3 carried by one end of a push-button 2 which co-operates with conductive bodies, e.g. balls 7, seated in an insulating plate 5, the bodies 7 contacting an array of conductors, e.g. printed circuit conductors, mounted on a board 4 beneath plate 5 so that when the push-button 2 is depressed the elastomeric layer 3 bridges the bodies 7 and completes a circuit between conductors of the array. Above each body 7 a recess 2b is provided in the push-button 2 so that the elastomeric layer 3 can conform to the shape of the body 7 when the push-button 2 is depressed. A plurality of seats are provided in the plate 5, at least two containing conductive balls, e.g. silvered or gilded steel balls, and a third an insulating, e.g. glass ball. The seats are arranged to coincide with the conductors of the array. One conductive ball 7 may be smaller than the rest so that it is contacted after the other ball. An air tight film or fabric 8 may be provided above a keyboard composed of the switches, and it may be transparent or provided with legends to indicate the functions of the switches.
