1384441 Benzomorphans SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 18 May 1972 [21 May 1971 20 Dec 1971] 23460/72 Heading C2C Novel compounds (I) (including salts thereof) wherein R is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group, an alkoxy group containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an acyloxy group; R 1 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a phenyl group, a halophenyl group, an alkylphenyl group of which each alkyl group contains from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, an alkoxyphenyl group of which each alkoxy group contains from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, a trifluoromethylphenyl group, an alkylthiophenyl group of which each alkylthio group contains from 1 to 3 carbon atoms or a group of the formula (C m H 2m-p+1 )- (R 9 ) p in which m is an integer of from 1 to 6, p is an integer of either 1 or 2 and R 9 is an alkoxy group containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R 2 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R 3 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, a phenyl group or an alkoxyphenyl group of which each alkoxy group contains from 1 to 3 carbon atoms and R 4 is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy group, or alternatively R 3 and R 4 in combination with a carbon atom to which they are each bonded represent an alkylidene group containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms or a carbonyl group; R 5 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R 6 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; and R 7 and R 8 are, each independently, a hydrogen atom or an ethyl group or methyl group and n is zero or an integer of either 1 or 2, are made by reacting (II) with AC n H 2n CN, where A signifies X.CHR 7 .CHR 8 (X is halogen), or with CHR 7 = CR 8 CN. Pharmaceutical preparations useful as analgesic agent contain (I) as active ingredient; administration is, e.g. orally or subcutaneously.
