Abstract

1310642 α-Sulpho- and α-sulphoalkyl-acyl cephalosporins PFIZER Inc 19 April 1971 [9 Nov 1969] 20430/71 Heading C2A [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises compounds of formula and pharmaceutically acceptable cationic salts thereof, wherein R 1 is phenyl or substituted phenyl, the substituent being selected from alkyl, alkoxy, chloro, bromo and trifluoromethyl; R 2 is hydrogen or R 1 and R 2 when taken together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form a cycloalkyl group of from 3 to 7 carbon atoms; R 3 is selected from hydrogen (in the case of Formula I only) and acyloxy alkyl wherein the acyloxy moiety is selected from alkanoyloxy, benzoyloxy and substituted benzoyloxy, the substituents being selected from alkyl, alkoxy, chloro, bromo, fluoro and trifluoromethyl; R 4 is hydrogen, hydroxy, acetoxy and tertiary amino; and n is 0 or an integer from 1 to 8. Pharmaceutical compositions which have antibiotic activity contain compounds of Formula I or II in conjunction with suitable carriers. The compounds of Formula I are useful antibacterial agents in fuels and cutting oils. The pharmaceutical compositions may be suitable for oral, parenteral and topical applications.
