1384407 Vinyl chloride CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 16 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 28288/72 Heading C2C Vinyl chloride is manufactured by the thermal splitting of 1,2-dichloroethane in a tubular reactor providing a heating up zone followed by a reaction zone in the presence of small amounts of chlorine, at elevated temperature, the chlorine being fed to the tubular reactor at not less than two points, the first introduction taking place in the region of the heating up zone and the or each further introduction taking place in the region between <SP>3</SP>/ 10 and <SP>8</SP>/ 10 of the reaction zone length, calculated from the beginning of the reaction zone.
