Abstract
1383929 Oxide abrasive TREIBACHER CHEMISCHE WEKKE AG 14 April 1972 [19 April 1971] 17394/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division C4] Crystalline abrasive material having a crystal size within a defined range is produced by adding metal bodies to a east but still liquid metal of aluminium oxide or aluminium oxide and zirconium oxide and separating the bodies from the solidified material after impact size reduction. The bodies may be ferromagnetic and in the form of balls, pieces of circular or non-circular section rods or cubes with rounded edges and may be separated after impact size reduction by magnetic separation. The melt may additionally comprise magnesium oxide and may be subjected to a preliminary size reduction after solidification prior to impact size reduction and the abrasive material formed may have a maximum crystal size not exceeding 20 times the minimum crystal size and may be used in the manufacture of grinding wheels.
