Abstract
1383886 Welding/cutting by fusion MESSER GRIESHEIM GmbH 31 May 1973 [2 June 1972] 25906/73 Headings B3R and B3V [Also in Division H5] A nozzle assembly for an arc welding, e.g. gas shielded and plasma, torch or a cutting torch comprises a nozzle tube 20, a sleeve 12 in the tube and an electrically insulating insert 13 between the nozzle tube and the sleeve wherein, at one end, the tube and sleeve have corresponding polygonal inner 14 and outer 15 crosssections respectively such that the insulating insert is pressed between the tube and the sleeve and relative rotation of tube and sleeve cannot take place. Relative axial movement may be prevented by forming a chamfer 17, Fig. 2, or groove on sleeve 12 and a corresponding flange 19 or bead on tube 20. The tube may be made of material of lower thermal conductivity than that of the sleeve, e.g. steel and copper or brass respectively. A nozzle mouthpiece 21 of higher-thermal conductivity, e.g. copper may be inserted by a spigoted end 28 into a bore 27 of the tube 20 the two interfitting parts being ovalized (Fig. 3, not shown) and relatively rotated to obtain a tight fit.
