Abstract

1383630 Pyridinium salts AGFA-GEVAERT AG 22 May 1973 [24 May 1972 7 April 1973] 24259/73 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C3 and G2] N,N - phenyl - N - methyl - carbamoylpyridinium chloride is prepared by reacting phosgene with N-methyl aniline at 80-90‹ C. in toluene to produce phenyl-methyl carbamoyl chloride. This compound is reacted with pyridine to produce the desired compound. The pyridinium salt of formula is prepared by adding morpholine to phosgene in toluene and heating to produce morpholinochlorocarbonyl. This compound is then added to 3-acetaminopyridine in chloroform and heated to produce the desired salt. The salts are used as hardeners in photographic emulsions.
