Abstract
1383258 Crates for glass sheets LIBBEY. OWENS-FORD CO 7 Dec 1972 56431/72 Heading B8P A crate for car or lorry windshields has saddles faced with a resilient material and which are adjustable so that the crate will accommodate different sized windshields. The crate has a rigid metal frame with an upper front portion 26 removable to assist loading and unloading. The windshields are supported on the base by members 31, at their end by inclined braces 34 and rest against vertical supports 42, 43. Each supporting face is angled to accommodate windshields of different contour and are faced with rubber having a tough skin. The braces 34 are adjustable by means of pins 40 engaging holes in an inclined mounting 37, the supports 42 are similarly adjustable along vertical members 23, 24. The windshields are secured by hold down straps 50 having buckles 52 and passing through strips 57 of wood, plastic or fibre there being a sheet of corrugated paper 61 against the glass edges. The crate may have a central divider fitted to accommodate two shorter stacks of glass. A member 70 at the ends of the crate protects the ends of the sheets and carries an identification card. The bottom of the crate has members 76, 78 to facilitate the use of a fork lift truck.
