Abstract

1382644 Air distribution terminals TRANE CO 15 March 1972 [16 March 1971] 12121/72 Heading F4V The ventilation apparatus of Specification 1,363,684 is modified so that it can be used with heated or cooled air, the operation of the automatic damper being reversed in the two different cases. Specification 1,363,684 describes apparatus (Fig. 1, not shown) in which the amount of cooling air entering a ventilated zone is controlled by a thermostat through a damper in the air-duct. If the temperature sensor 52 indicates a low temperature it closes a contact connected to a motor 19 arranged to close the damper. If the temperature is too high the thermostat energizes a contact connected to the damper opening motor 20. There is also a pressure-sensitive switch 38 responding to an excessive rate of flow of air in the duct to disconnect the power from terminal 41 and the thermostat 52 and to apply it instead to terminal 42 connected to the damper closing motor 19. Excessive air-flow therefore removes the thermostat from the control and closes the damper. The modification of this invention provides a pair of change-over switches 60, 61 for the two motors controlled by a heat-sensitive bulb 68 in the air duct. By this means the apparatus may be used with heated air the connections to the motors automatically being reversed so that when the thermostat detects too low a temperature the motor 20 is operated to open the damper and increase the air-flow and vice-versa. To prevent uncontrolled hunting of the control system a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) provides a second switch on the excessive air-speed detector. The damper opening motor is operated by the thermostat through normally closed contacts on the first switch but the damper closing motor is operated either directly by the thermostat or, when excess air-speed is detected, directly through normally open contacts of the second switch.
