Abstract

1382399 Driving auxiliaries MANNESMANN-MEER AG 23 Feb 1973 [24 Feb 1972] 8958/73 Heading B7V [Also in Division F2] A ship propulsion system includes an intermediate gearing system having a housing 3 disposed on propeller shaft 1. The housing is split in a plane containing the propeller shaft axis and is supported on the shaft by two radial bearings 4. A gear 2 with a split hub is fitted on the propeller shaft and this gear drives output shaft 6 of the intermediate gearing system. The housing carries a reaction link 8 to withstand axial thrust and also carries a torque reaction link 10, Fig. 2 (not shown). In the system described the split gear drives the output shaft via mating gear 7.
