Abstract

1381773 Detergent toilet bars UNILEVER Ltd 31 May 1972 25487/72 Heading C5D A toilet bar comprises, based on the total weight of detergent-active compounds used therein, (A) 40-85% of a primary alkane sulphonate or a mixture of primary alkane sulphonates, the carbon chains of which contain 12 C atoms or an average of about 12 C atoms, (B) 5 to 35% of a natural or synthetic fatty acid or a mixture of two or more such acids, the C chains of which contain 12 C or an average of about 12 C, (C) 5 to 30% of a binder modifier which is a C 12 -C 16 hydroxyalkane sulphonate (wherein the OH group is removed at least 1 C atom from the sulphonate group), C 10 -C 16 acyl isethionate, C 10 -C 16 alkylmethyl tauride, C 10 -C 16 hydroxyalkylmethyl tauride, C 12 -C 18 primary alkyl sulphate, C 12 -C 16 primary alkyl phosphonate or phosphate, C 12 -C 16 monoalkyl succinate or maleate, C 6 -C 14 dialkylsulphosuccinate, C 16 -C 20 alkane disulphonate or C 8 -C 18 alkene sulphonate, or mixtures thereof; and (D) based on the total weight of the toilet bar, from 5 to 25% of water. The primary alkane sulphonates (A) may contain a small amount of secondary alkane sulphonate and may be mixtures of C 8 to C 16 compounds provided the alkane sulphonates average about 12 C atoms; preferred are C 10 -C 14 mixtures, especially 50/50 mixtures. Fatty acids (B) may be C 8 to C 16 provided the average is about 12 C. Detergents (A) and (C) may be in the form of the alkali metal, magnesium or ammonium salts. The pH of the bar must be within the range 4À5 to 9À5. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,171,616.
