Abstract

1381675 Coining TAYLOR & CHALLEN Ltd 11 July 1973 [21 July 1972 4 Nov 1972] 34155/72 and 50911/72 Heading B3Q A collar plate assembly for a coining press comprises a connection 17 for compressed-air which escapes upwards around the periphery of the collar plate 7 so as to resist the ingress into the assembly of powdered metal oxide broken from blanks coined in the collar plate. A pad 22 of foam rubber compressed between the plate 7 and a holder 14 for the lower die 13 expands on downward movement of the holder 14 and helps to produce a suction effect for drawing a blank into the base of the collar plate 7 and also prevents the ingress of powder. The plate is fixed by a ring 9 to one end of a sleeve 8 the other end of which is biased by springs 12, the sleeve being retained for limited movement in a casing 2 by end plates 4, 5. There is a plastics bearing 15 between the sleeve 8 and die-holder 14 which is pressed down against actuating mechanism (not shown), by plungers 16. Compressed-air from the connection 17 enters an annular duct 19 which is connected by radial passages 20 to a duct 21 in the ring 9 from which it escapes upwardly. The outer surface of sleeve 8 is dimpled to accommodate any powder that penetrates. Upward movement of the die 13 ejects the coin.
