Abstract

1381662 Detection of hydrogen peroxide or peroxidative active compounds MILES LABORATORIES Inc 29 Feb 1972 [1 March 1971] 9389/72 Heading G1B A composition for detecting hydrogen peroxide or peroxidative active compounds by the catalytic oxidation of iodide by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a peroxidative active compound comprises a water-soluble halide salt, alpha naphthoflavone of formula optionally in proportion 0.05% to 0.30% as indicator, and either a peroxidative active compound or hydrogen peroxide respectively. The peroxidative active compound may be peroxidase in proportion 0.01% to 0.05%, haemoglobin or a molybdate in proportion 0.1% to 1.5%. The iodide may be present as 0.25% to 1.5% of the composition. Compositions exemplified comprise glucose oxidase, peroxidase, potassium iodide (KI), polyvinyl alcohol, dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate, trisglutamate buffer and the indicator; glucose oxidase, KI, ammonium molybdate, phosphate buffer, the indicator; carrageenin polyvinyl pyrrolidone citrate buffer, maleic anhydride-methyvinylether copolymer, sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, peroxidase, glucose oxidase, KI, the indicator. The composition may be used in the form of a tablet, powder or solution or may be impregnated into a paper strip.
