1381408 Controlling acid strength in alkylation TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 13 July 1972 [5 Aug 1971] 32893/72 Heading B1X [Also in Divisions C5 and G4] Apparatus for controlling the Strength of an acid in an alkylation unit, in which an isoparaffin and olefin entering at 6 are reacted in contactor 4 in the presence of acid fed in through line 17, the mixture is fed to settler 12, part of the acid is discharged through line 21 and part recycled through lines 16, 7, comprises means for controlling the strength of the acid in accordance with a control signal, for example by applying derived signal E 22 to fresh acid flow controller 80, means 35 for sensing the water content of the olefin and isoparaffin stream, means 40 for determining the composition of the olefin and isoparaffin stream and means 37 for determining its flow rate, means 81; 29 for sensing the flow rates of the fresh acid and of the discharge acid; the sensing and determining means each providing signals; and control signal means 36 responsive to these for providing control signals E 20 , these then being compared with a desired acid strength signal V P to provide an error signal E 22 to fresh acid flow recorder controller 80.
