Abstract
1381245 Pressure casting machines SANDERS ASSOCIATES Inc 27 Feb 1973 [2 March 1972] 9580/73 Heading B3F [Also in Division F1] In a circuit, Fig. 2, for controlling the rate of flow of fluid to a load 32 and the rate of change of flow, a main valve 21, of the type in which the flow to the load is proportional to the rate of flow of pilot fluid is controlled by an auxiliary valve 62 and a restrictor 64 which determines the maximum rate of flow of pilot fluid to the valve 21. A restrictor 69 determines the rate at which the valve 62 opens and thus the rate of change of flow of pilot fluid. In operation, the spool of valve 21 is initially displaced to the right of the position shown by pressure from a source 38 acting in a space 22. End space 23 is connected to reservoir through a throttle 71. This connects source 38 through conduit 37, valve 21 and conduit 33 to the rod end of cylinder 32 to retract the plunger. To move the plunger forwards a solenoid 58 is energized to connect a higher pressure source 51 to conduit 55. This pressure begins to open the valve 62 at a rate controlled by the adjustable throttle 69. This controls the rate at which pilot flow to the valve 21 increases and thus the rate of increase of flow to the load 32. After the piston has reached a steady speed, determined by the throttle 64, further acceleration may be produced by energizing a solenoid 57 and de-energizing 58. This connects the source 51 to a conduit 54, valve 82 and throttles 84, 89 which act as previously described. The cylinder 32 may be the shot cylinder of a die-casting machine.
