Expanded metal.-The marginal members or booms of expanded-metal structures such as latice girders, columns, poles, towers, and trusses are made of increasing width from the junctions of the diagonals and are widest midway between the junctions. Fig. 17 shows a parallel expanded truss; the marginal portions may be inclined to each other for tapering structures. Fig. 20 shows a two-sided integral lattice member. The slits in the blanks of the expanded members may be undulating or zigzag, and the rows of slits may be staggered.
