Abstract

1380300 Clamping mechanisms NIPPON KOKAN KK 28 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971 24 Aug 1972] 59929/72 Heading E2B A clamping mechanism whereby a working platform is supported on a wall of a structure comprises a body 1, a part 2 of which engages a face of a rib of a fixture attached to the structure, a wedge 14 slidably mounted in the body 1 for engagement, in use, with a face of the rib opposed to the face with which the part 2 co-operates, and a screw threaded member 6 for urging the wedge 14 into its clamping position. A cross-arm 3 is connected as by pivoting, to the body 1 and is arranged to carry a further arm on which planks are placed to form the working platform. The angle of the cross-arm relative to the body is adjustable by means of a further screwthreaded member 8 which, when the mechanism is in use, is under tension. The pivotal point of the cross arm may be changed such that in use of the mechanism the screw-threaded member is under compression (Fig. 5, not shown). Angular adjustment, in a further embodiment, may be effected by a worm gear (Fig. 6, not shown). The wedge 14 is guided in the body 1 by means of screw 16, which passes through a slot in the body 1.
