Abstract

1379815 Discharging hoppers S MASUDA 23 March 1972 [12 Feb 1972] 13655/72 Heading B8S [Also in Division B2] An electrostatic spraying device for powder comprises a hopper 131 which feeds powder to a rotary cup 121, flow being controlled by a valve 169. An annular electrode 137 is disposed adjacent the lip of the cup 121 and is connected to a high voltage D.C. source so that powder thrown from the cup is charged before impinging on the wall 171 of the chamber 161. The chamber walls are of insulating material and embedded therein is a series of electrodes 164-166 each of which is connected to one terminal of an A.C. supply whereby the powder is moved towards the outlet 173. A further electrode 176 is connected to a high voltage D.C. source 177. An inlet 183 for dry inert gas is provided in a chamber 163 having outlets 184 to the chamber 161. The member 121 is driven through gearing 134, 133 by a motor M.
