Abstract

1379485 Valves I H BOTNICK 17 Jan 1972 2210/72 Heading F2V A mixer valve for hot and cold water comprises a body B having hot and cold inlet connections H, C and a discharge connection D, the discharge communicating with a cross bore 18 and the inlets with cross-bores 16, 17, there being provided a set of plates on either side of the cross-bores with two movable valve plates each side, so as to produce hot, warm, tepid or cold water from the discharge. Considering the set of plates on the left hand side of Fig. 4, the crossbores 16, 17, 18 communicate with ports 35a, 35b, and 35d in a stationary plate 35, and between this and a secondary stationary plate 33 is a rectilinearly movable valve plate 34; between the stationary plate 33 and a third stationary plate 31 is a second movable valve plate 32. The valve plate 34 controls the warm water and the valve plate 32 controls the hot water. As shown in Fig. 4, hot water from the inlet 12 passes through the port 34a, a slot 32a, a port 34b, to the outlet 18. The valve plate 32 may be raised by its respective push button P to bring the slot 32a out of communication with ports 34a, 34b and so shut off the hot water. If the push button for valve plate 34 is depressed a slot (34t) (Fig. 7, not shown), allows both hot and cold water to flow to the outlet to provide the warm water, the cold water being throttled by an obstruction 21V. Similarly the set of plates on the right hand side provide tepid and cold water, with the hot water being throttled by an obstruction 20V. The valve plates may be actuated by a rack and pinion (Fig. 10, not shown), or they may rotate between on and off positions (Fig. 12, not shown).
