Abstract

1379360 Vapour deposition of magnetic record carriers INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 13 Sept 1973 [14 Oct 1972] 43060/73 Heading C7F A magnetic record carrier is formed by depositing a non-magnetic oxide or nitride layer of e.g. Ti, V, Cr, Al, Mo, W, Mn, Fe or Si on a substrate of e.g. Al-Mg (heated to 100 to 250‹C) and then vapour depositing at an angle of 50 to 75 degrees to the normal to the substrate a magnetic layer of e.g. Fe-Co. The surface of the Fe-Co layer may be subsequently oxidized. The oxide or nitride layer may be vapour deposited in an oxygen or nitrogen atmosphere. The materials may be evaporated by electron beams.
