Abstract

1379245 Spring units PIPE SUPPORTS Ltd 20 March 1972 [31 March 1971] 8349/71 Heading F2S A spring device, particularly for supporting a pipeline, has spring means such as a helical spring 19, acting between the bases 13 of two relatively movable (similar) members 10, 11, each of which has a pair of arms 15a forming a U with its base 13 which is located between the arms of the other member. Each pair of arms 15a is accommodated in recesses 14 in the base 13 of the other member and the ends 17 of the arms receive a bolt 22 or 24 which passes through a suspension eye or that of a load-supporting turnbuckle 26. A welded strut 20 or a bolted tubular spacer bridges the arms of each pair and, between that of the member 11 and the base 13 of the member 10, a removable stop 21 determines the precompression of the spring 19. The pair of arms 15a may be provided by a strip welded to a base 13. To lock the members 10, 11 against relative movement, a pair of diametrically-opposed U-clips 31 are turned through a right angle so as to straddle the adjacent arm 15a of the member 10 and receive the edge of base 13 of the member 11 in notches. A scale 27 on the member 11 co-operates with an arrow 28 on the member 10.
