Abstract

137,881. Slack, J. E. Dec. 20, 1918. Junction-pieces; branches and mains, connecting.-Relates to a joint particularly for attaching a pipe section 2 of a steam-superheater to a header or manifold 1. In one form, it comprises an L-shaped connecting-piece 3 clamped at 9 against the machined surface of the header 1 by a bolt 4 with nut 7. The joint 9 is sealed by red lead contained in grooves in the machined surfaces. Segmental passages 12 are provided in the enlarged end of the bolt 4. The ccnnecting-piece 3 may be formed by suitably plugging or cutting an ordinary T-piece or L-piece, or, where there are two pipes 2, a cross-shaped junction may be used, as shown in dotted lines. A U-shaped connecting-piece may be attached at the top of the header, as shown in dots and dashes.
