Where more than one pedestal is used these are associated with pits or ramps. As described there is a single pedestal 3 on which three arms 121 are mounted on bearing rings 22, each arm supporting a pull tower 5. A platform formed of a number of beams 10 interconnected by rails 11 is attached to the top of the pedestal by rods 15. The assembly of pedestal, arms 121 and towers 5 is tiltable on shaft 24 from a ramp position, Fig. 2 (not shown), to the horizontal, by an hydraulic cylinder 44, and supported on legs 69 pivoted to the underside of the platform. The arms 121 are secured by a bolt 13 or a plate 111, Fig. 4, passed between the beams 10 of the platform or through a movable stay 18 between the two sides of the platform. The pull towers 5 house jacks 57 which extend the towers and tension cables or chains 102 connected to the body or frame of a vehicle by a variety of attachments, the vehicle being chained to the platform. The chains 102 pass round pulleys which are adjustable on the towers 5. A pump 55 supplying the jacks 57 and auxiliary jacks 45 is housed in the pedestal and driven electrically or pneumatically. A clamp for gripping the sill ribs of frameless bodies includes wedge jaws (151), Figs. 3A-3C (not shown), closed on to the ribs by attaching a pull chain to the bevel-closing jaw-housing (150). Instead of hydraulic jacks, mechanical or pneumatic jacks may be used.
