1377324 Benzofuranyl basic alkyl ketones PRODUITS CHIMIQUES UGINE KUHLMANN 21 Feb 1973 [21 Feb 1972] 8420/73 Heading C2C Novel compounds of formula wherein R is halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy, carboxyalkoxy, alkoxy-carbonylalkoxy, hydroxy or nitro, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> each represent a C 1-5 alkyl group or together with the N atom form a saturated hyeterocyclic ring optionally containing a further hetero atom which may be alkyl substituted and salts thereof, are prepared by reacting formaldehyde or a formaldehyde polymer with the amine HNR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP> and a 5-R-substituted-2-acetylbenzofuran optionally with salt formation. 2-Acetyl-5-R-benzofurans are prepared by reacting a 5-R-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, K 2 CO 3 and monochloroacetone or for the 5-hydroxy compound, hydrolysing the 5-methoxy compound and optionally converting into another 5-ether. Pharmaceutical compositions in conventional forms for treatment of hypernicemia comprise an above novel compound and a carrier therefor
