Abstract

1377161 Disproportionation catalyst BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 8 Sept 1972 [20 Sept 1971] 43690/71 Addition to 1093784 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A disproportionation catalyst comprises rhenium heptoxide and a support, the support comprising a mixture of alumina and up to 50% wt. of a tin oxide, e.g. stannic oxide. The alumina is suitably gamma-alumina derived from boehmite prepared by the hydrolysis of aluminium alkoxides resulting from oxidation of the products of a ziegler-type reaction of a low mat aluminium alkyl and an alpha, monoolefin. The catalyst may contain 1 to 20 pbw rhenium heptoxide per 100 parts of support. The catalyst is activated before use by calcining in air or oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxides helium.
