1,266,457. Palladium catalysts. KURARAY CO. Ltd. 18 June, 1970 [20 June, 1969], No. 29676/70. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C2] Catalyst compositions comprise palladium metal which may be supported or unsupported, and an alkali metal alkoxide. The catalyst is used to prepare an ester of an unsaturated carboxylic acid by reacting an unsaturated aldehyde, an alcohol and molecular oxygen. Sodium or potassium alkoxides are preferred and the carrier may be alumina, silica, silicaalumina, pumice or active carbon.
