Abstract

1377045 Bending metal tubes TSENTRALNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT TEKHNOLOGII MASHINOSTROENIA 23 Jan 1973 3401/73 Heading B3E A machine for bending a pipe into serpentine shape comprises means for moving the pipe along its axis towards a rotary table, the table being movable transversely of the pipe, two clamps mounted on and movable vertically relative to the table, and a fixed sleeve guiding the pipe towards a fixed heater. As shown, the table 10 is rotatable in a ring 2 by worm 13 and motor 18, and the table is reciprocable by a pneumatic cylinder 9 on rods 5 between stops 56 simultaneously adjustable by hand wheel 63. Each clamp 30 and its pneumatic operating cylinder 31, Fig. 12, is mounted on a slider 22 movable in guides in a cut-out 21 in table 10 by a hand wheel 28. The hinge 65 of the clamp is secured to a member 66 urged upwardly by springs 71 to a limit position defined by nuts 69, so that retraction of the cylinder causes release and then lowering of the clamp, and extension of the cylinder causes raising and then clamping of the clamp. The pipe is advanced by a motor 48 driving lead screws 44 which reciprocate a clamp 40 similar to clamps 30, but not movable vertically. At the beginning of a bending cycle, the mechanism is disposed as in Fig. 1; the pipe passing through the fixed sleeve 51, Fig. 7, indication heater 53, and being held by one clamp 30. Motors 18 and 48 are energized, so that clamp 30 forms a first 180 degree bend, the pipe being fed at a faster rate than the speed of movement of the clamp to avoid thinning of the bend wall. The clamp is released and lowered, the pipe fed on by the required distance between bends, and the table moved to the other end of rods 5. The other clamp is raised and clamped, to give the position in Fig. 7. The second bend is then made by reverse rotation of the table, and the disposition of Fig. 1, resumed to complete the cycle. The eccentricity of clamps 30 relative to table 10 and the positions of stops 56 are set on wheels 28, 63 to suit the desired radius of bend, and the clamp jaws, sleeve 51 and heater 53 are replaceable to suit different pipe diameters.
