Abstract

1376852 Fe-Si-Al alloys NIPPON GAKKI SEIZO KK 12 March 1973 [13 March 1972(3)] 11792/73 Headings C7D and C7F An Fe-Si-Al sendust alloy for the production of magnetic recording heads is produced by coating an Fe-Al alloy with Si or siliconizing an Fe-Al surface and heating to diffuse the Si into the alloy. The composition of the resulting alloy is 4-8% Al, 8-12% Si, balance Fe. The Si may be applied by sputtering, by deposition from vapour on heating silane or dichloro silane, or by chemical deposition from silane, dichloro silane or SiCl 4 in an atmosphere of H 2 , N 2 , He or Ar. The diffusion process is carried out at 900‹-1300‹C. The cleaned substrate may be pretreated by ion bombardment prior to coating. The Fe-Al alloy may be formed into the desired final shape before coating with Si.
