Abstract

1376599 Prepayment meters UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 13 Dec 1971 [23 Dec 1970] 61060/70 Heading G4V [Also in Division H1] A prepayment meter for controlling the delivery of a supply on a time basis includes a rotatable member 32 having an index 39 and a cam 34 which operates a switch 12 at a predetermined rotary position of the member 32 to cut-off the supply, and means 20 for rotating the member 32 at a predetermined speed, the index 39 indicating the time remaining before the supply is cut-off. In the embodiment described electric motor 20 is energized whilst switch 12 is closed to rotate member 32 in one direction through differential drive gear 25, 28, 30, 31 and gear 38 is connected to a manually rotatable coin-freed mechanism to permit the member 32 to be rotated in the reverse direction on the insertion of a coin. This mechanism may be as in Specification 1,057,241. The member 32 is a one-piece plastics moulding the index 39 and a fixed pointer 40 being visible through a window 41 located at the top of casing 15. In the electricity supply meter shown switch 12 acts directly to cut-off the mains supply on leads 11, but in a gas meter &c. the switch 12 controls a suitable supply valve.
